What Is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT is a mind-body therapy which involves using a two finger tapping technique on acupressure points on the upper body and hands while focusing on an emotional or physical issue. Tapping on the acupressure points helps reduce psychological and emotional dysregulation which leads to lasting emotional and cognitive change.

The Science of EFT

Many studies have shown that EFT is effective for a variety of issues including stress, PTSD, phobias, anxiety, depression, pain, food cravings, sleep issues and much more.

It is thought that Clinical EFT works by deactivating the amygdala, the stress centre of the brain and the hippocampus, the memory centre when we think of stressful memories, thoughts,  feelings or physical sensations.

There are over 200 clinical trials showing the effectiveness of EFT. For example a 2012 study by Dawson Church showed significantly reduced cortisol levels and improved psychological symptoms including anxiety and depression. The Benefits of EFT

  • Overcome fears and phobias in a gentle and non-traumatic way- EFT is very person centred where I work at your pace to help you work through your fears and phobias.

  • Relieve physical pain- EFT has been shown to reduce or even eliminate physical pain. (It is important that you have consulted with a medical practitioner to rule out underlying issues).

  • Rapid relief from emotional distress- EFT can help you process worries and traumas gently and effectively. When people start to clear the emotions around a problem they often gain new insights and perspectives.

  • Healing from trauma and PTSD- EFT uses gentle techniques so you don't have to relive traumatic experiences.

  • Your issues can be kept private-even from me. If you find it difficult to talk about your issues, instead we can tap on how you feel and make significant shifts. 

 

My Journey With EFT

I found Tapping many years ago when suffering from sciatica and I was so impressed that I worked through other issues systematically as they arose. I then began to read everything I could about Tapping and finally trained with EFT International so that I could help others. 

What happens at the first session?

The first session is an initial consultation where I will take notes about your problem area. I will fully explain EFT Tapping and go through the Tapping process and and then we will work on your issue. Subsequent sessions dive deeper into your problems areas and we work to clear them.

You will also receive a helpful EFT Guide and a series of videos so you can use EFT between sessions. 

How many sessions will I need?

I usually suggest at least 3 sessions to start with, however this is completely up to you. Every person and problem is different and we review our progress at each meeting.
